Privacy policy

Honk Radar is a free outage checker. You can use it without an account. This page says what we collect, why, and for how long.

Last updated 8 November 2026. Honk Radar is run by GooseLabs (Pty) Ltd, 7 Kraaibosch Blvd, George, Western Cape, 6529, South Africa (registration 2026/834824/07). Questions: [email protected].

When you look at a page

We don't use analytics or advertising cookies, and we don't build profiles of visitors. Like most websites, our web server writes a short log line for each request: the address that connected, the page and the result. We use it to keep the site running and secure, and it is kept only for as long as the server's logs are kept (normally a few weeks at most).

To suggest your country, we use the country Cloudflare reports for your connection, and we may ask IPinfo for your country and network. Those answers are held in memory for up to 30 minutes and are not saved in our database. You can always choose a different country yourself.

When you report a problem

A report contains the service, the time, the kind of problem you picked and, if you chose one, a country. There is no free text. To stop one household counting many times, we turn your network's address block into a code that changes every day and can't be turned back into your address. We don't store your IP address or set a cookie for this. Reports are shown only in totals, and they are deleted after 30 days.

When you follow a service by email

If you ask for emails about rising reports, we keep your email address, the service and the area you chose. We send a confirmation email first and do nothing until you confirm. Every email has a one-click unsubscribe, which deletes your request. Unconfirmed requests are deleted after 7 days. A record of each email sent (address, subject and whether it was delivered, not the message itself) is kept for 90 days. For one day we also keep the address that made a request, to stop abuse.

What is stored in your browser

Your choices are kept in your own browser, not sent to us: light or dark mode, chart style, your country, your list of services, map layers and saved cables. Clear your browser's site data to remove them. The site also keeps a copy of its own files so pages still open when your connection drops. If you sign in to a HonkWatch account, a sign-in cookie is set; pages that confirm or cancel email requests set a security cookie that guards those forms.

Who else is involved

  • Cloudflare delivers the site and protects it from attacks. When it's switched on, its Turnstile check may run on the report form.
  • Google Fonts supplies the typefaces, so your browser loads them from Google.
  • IPinfo may answer which country and network an address belongs to.
  • Our email provider delivers the emails you asked for.
  • RIPE Atlas and RIPEstat supply network measurements. Our servers fetch these; your browser doesn't contact them.

We don't sell personal information.

Advertising

Honk Radar shows no ads today. If we add them, we'll update this page before they go live and, where the law requires it, ask for your consent first.

Backups

Our database backups are kept for up to 60 days, so deleted information is gone from them within that time.

Your rights

You can ask us what we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, or object to how we use it. Email [email protected]. Most of what Radar keeps can't be linked to you, because reports carry no name, address or IP. In South Africa you can complain to the Information Regulator; in the EU or UK, to your data protection authority.

Changes

When this policy changes, we update the date at the top of this page.
